NYCDA Weekly Draw - 2025 Summary of main achievements
As we look back on another year, as part of our commitment to our beneficiary partners and stakeholders, as well as our LCCP obligations, the board of NYCDA are pleased to report back on a wide range of activities relating to the NYCDA Weekly Draw and health of NYCDA. As is a theme from recent years, the organisation continues to navigate the issues of the day across 2025. Gathered from our engagement with members and beneficiaries, there continues to be an unfortunate issue with disposable income, which concentrates people's purse strings and discretionary spending on things like good cause giving.
In addition to the high costs of living, NYCDA, like all small organisations, continues to deal with cost-based challenges, and requirement to maintain beneficiary donations from the proceeds of the NYCDA Weekly Draw. We are pleased to report that the board, admin function and sales team continue to rise to these challenges and make progress across the board. Typified by our recent switch in systems provider and the associated efficiencies, we continue to be able to fund growth campaigns for our membership.
As always at the front of our mind was to keep all stakeholders including members, staff, and volunteers healthy. As we always reiterate, we value our commitment to maintain beneficiary donation levels and to ensure staff are remunerated above minimum levels. Naturally, expectations are high, with the organisation's focus always being to ensure the long-term viability of the NYCDA Weekly Draw, which in turn protected the funds raised for beneficiaries and all the great work they do.
Despite these trials and tribulations, as part of our annual reporting, we are pleased to report that total income from the NYCDA Weekly Draw of £1,128,044.00 was generated over the 53 weekly draws that took place during the calendar year of 2025. You will note due to the unusual situation of having 53 Wednesdays in a year, figures and percentages look slightly different from previous years.
From that total, a fantastic £592,449.57 (52.52%) was generated to be used by our beneficiaries and good causes for a range of sport, health & wellbeing, youth player development and education-based community projects. These projects range from youth player development of rugby league talent in Leeds and the support of skin cancer awareness campaigns with Melanoma UK, to funding the improvement of community focused semi-professional sport in Lancaster, and cricket based community development programmes across County Durham and the North East.
On top of those funds raised, £98,050 (8.69%) was won by members through the prize fund and £437,544.43 (38.79%) was spent in expenses to ensure all the NYCDA Weekly Draw could take place and related activities could happen.
The weekly prize pot has remained the same, but the board constantly review this. That said, the focus and pressure from beneficiaries is to protect beneficiary donation levels. As such, the board reiterate its commitment to direct more expenses in the way of sales activities. The cost of delivering these activities has risen once again in 2025, as a result of wage pressure, increased number of staff in this function, transport costs and general inflation, but the board sees this as essential and is committed to its beneficiaries.
NYCDA continues to ensure its cost base stays steady with aforementioned efficiencies proving useful. Funds are spent on a variety of activities including staff wages and associated on costs, office rent, travel, direct debit banking portals, promotional resources, social media graphics, insurance, phone systems, trade body memberships and Gam bling Commission licences.
The board continues to make difficult decisions to ensure the organisation's long-term success and the commitment to raising funds to beneficiaries. We continue to engage new beneficiaries to take advantage of our offer, which looks promising for 2026. Included in this is a commitment to sourcing none-weekly draw incomes, and watching costs, to build our reserves pot, which is something we have been able to do in recent times.
